Het stoomgemaal staat op de Unesco Werelderfgoedlijst en is het grootste nog in bedrijf zijnde stoomgemaal ter wereld. Bij extreem hoge waterstand doet het gemaal nog dienst en helpt om de waterstand van het Friese boezem op peil te houden. Sinds 1967 is het gemaal oliegestookt.
Lemmer, ir D.F. Woudagemaal. The steam pumping station features on the UNESCO World Heritage List and is the largest pumping station still in operation worldwide. At extreme high water, the station is still in service and helps to maintain the proper water level of the Friesian boezemwater. Since 1967, the pumping station is oil fired.
