De dijk is aangelegd als zeewering nadat de oorsrponkelijke duinen weggeslagen waren..Hondsbossche seawall seen from the North Sea. Groynes protect the seawall (levee), behind the dike within the waters of the 'Wells' ((created in the past by using soil for strengthening the seawall).
